Neurography: who inspires me to create….

You.

It’s easy to forget that in our community of creatives, there is a very important person to recognize - YOU!  You have so much to draw from when you begin to plan a creative, joyful life.  You have your rich past, full of experiences, memories and lessons that have all taught you how to be you.  And you have your future full of possibility, the holder of dreams and hope.  I read a quote from Sidney Pottier the other day and it stuck with me:

“I simply wake up every morning a better person than when I went to bed”.

This quote reminds me that no matter what happened the day before or in my past or even when considering what is to come, I will be a better person the next day.  Each day gives me gifts that head me in the right direction, that keep me moving along my path.  Whether these “aha moments” as Oprah likes to call them are difficult or joyful, there is always an option for seeing them as a moment of change.  And as Martin Luther King says,

“the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice”.

So even if you don’t feel like a better person, maybe if you aren’t even acting like a better person, you are.  Believing this helps you to tap into hope and potential.   The best way to train your brain to believe in yourself and your life as divine, is to practice gratitude.  It is impossible to feel fear, doubt, pity…when your brain is seeking out ways to be grateful.  Seeing all of the blessings that surround you takes practice, and committing to this practice will actually reconfigure your brain!  Bending the arc of the universe within until your brain sees hope all around you.

Prompt:

How do you greet yourself each morning?  Do you see a tired person getting older each day or do you see yourself as the next, better version?  What would you say to the better version of yourself each day as a greeting and how can you practice that?  What might keep you from thinking this way and how can you overcome that?

Try a drawing or making something that thanks that you for being you-

Hugs to you all
—Marilee

P.S. A gratitude practice actually changes the neuron pathways in your brain. See my step by step instruction for how to create a Neurological Drawing in the How to…section of the journal.
